I went nuts this past saturday. I "borrowed" an old digi from work and just went on a shooting frenzy.

First stop: Twisted Burger. Ocho Loco deal meant $.08 burgers (any burger on their menu!) and $1 beers. 1 per person, but those things are massive!

Second Stop: Union Square where there was this Harvest Festival.

Third Stop: Art Parade on West Broadway. Soooo cool! I wanna join! I really went crazy shooting here. I secured a nice spot at the begining of the route with "official" photographers. Check out the whole set here.

Fourth Stop: Modest Mouse at McCarren Pool. Great show with drunk frat and underage boys.

Fifth Stop: Drinking delicious fresh brewed ice tea with a shot of vodka. mmmm....soooo dangerous. Held at the Blooming Tea House on Clinton street, it was $7 to drink free all night. The whole party was "The Squeeze": The secret fashion week party. I pulled some major rookie moves that left me reeling the next day...but sooo worth it.

After staying up to 5am, we somehow managed to make the 2.5 hour drive to a mansion in the Hamptons. The host rented two school buses to ship his friends to his parent's huge house on the water. Unbelievable. Rosé champagne, bbq (which I didn't get to sample :(, pool, and wholy views! Too bad I couldn't go inside and drool over the furniture. Even more perfect was the meteor shower! Now I'm paying for it with a cold. boo.

Zune's Live at the BBQ. Second hip hop show in two days. No pics from KRS-ONE yesterday at Prospect park, 'cause my camera is D.E.D. That was a good show with Ladybug Mecca and Turntable Anihilists. But thanks to Chops, I had a camera to capture today.
The show featured Large Professor, Buckshot, Smif n Wessun, Joell Ortiz, Brand Nubian, Large Professor, Cham, MIMS, D-Block (The Lox), and super special guest L.L. Cool J. in all of his flesh. I think I'm one of the very few women out there who doesn't find him attractive or even that lip thing cute. That actually dries out your lips LL not make them kissably-soft. It was all worth it when he did Around the Way Girl. Classic.

07.29.07 BBQ at Tony's house up on Mt. Misery. As I held my camera on a dixie cup with one hand (as a make shift tripod), B$@ was coming up with some crazy-ass rhymes. I laughed so damn hard, I dropped the camera in. Then a haze came over all my photos after that....

07.28.07 First stop: the Cooper-Hewitt Museum to catch the second to last day of the Design Triennial. I wasn't disappointed, I expected something different. At least there was a wall of Chip Kidd and Kidrobot toys to droll over.
Then off to Sonic Youth at McCarren Pool.

Right on point:

First stop: Squishee time! I headed to the hell that is 42nd street for a glance at the Kwik-E-Mart. I managed to grab a semi-frozen Squishee (the turnaround is so quick that it doesn't have time to freeze) and a Buzz cola. Wasn't hungry enough to try out the donut, or had $6 to shell out on the Krusty-Os. As you can see Comic Book Guy walked into my shot.

Then in an atempt to be my own best friend, I headed to the free show at Urban Outfitters featuring El-P. I admit that I've been to only one other hip hop show in my life, which just so happened to be a Def Jux show! go figure! Such a small crowd, but I did enjoy myself. Hell, it was free!

After, I headed to Fontanas for the Nacotheque event. I had two free drinks before awkward guy approaches me with "It's ok, I'm here now!" REALLY! then after gaining my attention, he asks why I'm here. I told him that I needed to get out of my house. He too concured and added "I need to escape my ex". Isn't that rule #1 in the book?! Don't mention your ex's or that you just broke up with someone? Anyone beg to differ? I don't think he cared that much that I had a boyfriend and proceeded to keep with long awkward silences and his one word answers to my questions. After checking out the first act, I checked out of there at a pitful 10:30! I lasted 1 hour in that place! I could have gone longer if that dude wasn't occuping my whole night. I guess that's what it's like when you don't have you're friends to pull you away from such situations. geez Washington. Get a clue!

But, I actually got to have a small converstaion (if you want to call it that) with the one and only open bar asian guy! you guys who have been to open bars in the past two years know who I'm talking about. I got his makeshift card. Even his blog is somewhat nonsensical: http://tvoff.blogspot.com/. He told me he lists free events; that "mapletits doesn't have to buy anything ever again". Dude, I can't wait to be that open bar black girl....

07.11.07: My mom sent me these flowers for my birthday. It's soo cute! It's a birthday cake!
After the women's meeting, X and I hauled our rain-drenched butts to Astoria to wish Snarky a goodbye at the Bohemian Beer Gardens.

07.10.07: My Birthday!26 years old and revisiting a place I haven't been in ages. The Coney Island Aquarium. Sooo cool! Especially the walrus. He took a loose poop and pulled out a wang as long as I am tall. Chops and I headed to the Wonder Wheel afterwards. I downed some Nathan's earlier, but figured this was easier than attempting the Cyclone like I originally wanted to do. We opted for the sliding car. Like the pussy I own, I screamed like a little girl when it slid forward. A nice walk down the pier was plenty entertaining. Fisherman catching fish that looked like the ones I just saw and poor rejected crabs. After a quick change, we went to La Palina for an amazing dinner. yummmm! We stuffed ourselves silly and it was gift time. Two lovely pieces of clothing, a yoga block that still hasn't arrived from Jersey yet, and the best yet: a Snoopy Snocone Machine! I sooo remember using this when I was kid. I can't believe that I could use it then. It took so much manpower! Then off to Lazy Catfish for two rounds of $1 wells. Couldn't put much more into a great birthday! thanks Chops! Definitely check out the photos!!!

07.08.07: Butane Variations Rooftop BBQ. I was nervous about this one. I didn't know how cool it was going to be and Chops just kept inviting people. I'm SOO happy everyone came and just created the party. We crashed that roof with their "36 grills" (I counted 12). My po partner and I managed to make a total of $28 off all the unused food we had. Hell, we're poor and these people are eating for free? fuck that!

07.07.07 Simian Mobile Disco. I didn't make it into the huge Boredoms thing, which makes me soo uncool, I had to settle for dancing at Studio B. New Rave is it!

07.06.07 Snarky's Goodbye drinky-thing at K&M bar. 'course I managed to run out of money after the first two drinks. Anyone want to apply for the position of platonic sugar daddy?

07.04.07 July 4th! First stop, NB's house for some punch making. Snarky and I in our free booze induced drunkeness decided it would be a great idea. It sure was! yumtastic and super sweet.Next stop the Todd P party. stayed there for a super short amount of time. Just in time to snap this:Then off to a little park down the street for a great view of the fireworks. Started at about 9:30 just in time. The rain stopped for the entire duration. I guess God loves fireworks!
07.03.07 drinks at Lazy Catfish. No photos but oh my god what a deal! Tuesdays are free PBR from 8:30-10. Then $1 wells from 10-12! too bad I have to work the day after my bday!

06.30.07 Out in Shirley, LI for a little party at the bosses house. A huge chunk of Tuna, smoked pork, loads of beer and Cap-in', mixed with a pool, some corn hole (I know, I know. who knew it was a game too?!), just feet away from Fire Island, made for a great time. Not to mention the two Bud lights donated to 5 of us on the train, after we ran out of champagne. yum. thanks kids.

Friday, June 22nd 2007: Went to Acupuncture for the first time ever. Worked on my stomach pains within the first five minutes. Don't know if the seeds in my ear worked for the 4 days I had to use them, but it was cool to have.

Saturday, June 23rd 2007: Beach Day at Long Beach. Nothing but wind picking up the sand and blowing it up my freakin' crotch! Yes, a true sandy vag.

Then on to Ant's party after a quick stop to Tribeca Grand. Smoke, Sweat, and $20 worth of good vodka helped me to stumble home in time for the 4am pass out session.

Sunday, June 24th 2007: Element Premiere at KCDC. Although it wasn't as crazy as Thursday, it was more fun. Better competitions for the goods. My biggest commentary of the day: Girls SUCK. It hurts to say. I was ultra pissed that not one girl could do a freakin' Ollie for the all girls contest. WTF???? I say this to all girls and boys out there that are using a skateboard as a fucking fashion accessory: hand the skateboards over to the poor kids that have to tape up their boards after splitting the thing after trying so damn hard to nail that backside 5-0 for the 10th time that day!

Friday, June 15th 2007: DiBWiCa party.
Ellen's house first complete with Chili and Cornbread. Then on to mine complete with gin, vodka and focaccia.

Saturday, June 16th 2007: 82 Maspeth House Party.

Finally we had our party. Lots of alcohol and food was consumed. Dancing was done and the sun rose over our inebriated heads. Thanks everyone for making it great! Special thanks to Garden Grill for hosting our drunk asses at 6am.

Sunday, June 17th 2007: Father's Day.

After 2 hours sleep, the sis, Rob and I headed back to Jers. The fam headed out to The Frog and the Peach in New Brunswick. DEEEE-LICOUS! $32 for a 3 course pre fix. So yummy!

Monday and Tuesday, June 18th and 19th 2007: Wildwood.
Chops and I ended up at the Senior Week Nexus for our 3 year anniversary. Day one consisted of a few cold hours on the beach, buffet dinner and seeing Ocean's 13 on the beach on a big blow up screen. SOOO cool! Day 2 consisted of a whole day at the beach, 1 six pack and seafood dinner overlooking the heavy fog.

Wednesday, June 20th 2007: Atlantic City and Aberdeen.

Woke up to rain and clouds. Meant no last day at the beach and Chops wasn't going to the skate park. Opted for breakfast at a Doo-Wop dinner called the Pink Cadillac for one of the best wraps I ever had. After leaving, the sun started to come out. Of Course. We made the detour to Atlantic City. never been before 'cause I'm not the gambling type. What a depressing place.

We high-tailed out to Aberdeen. After some home cooked food and Rita's, the neighbors came over with the Harley. Chopper on a Chopper.

Thursday, June 21st 2007: Element T.I.M.E. premiere at Times Square. Just in time for go skateboarding day....HOLY! What a day....BUT...I have to keep those photos under wrap...for now...

Finally, the band gets to break out of the bubble. After obtaining a media pass (thanks CMJ!) I headed into the insanity. I should have been in the freakin' VIP tent! you would think that I'd get such things, but nope. Hung out in the press area to watch the show, and to avoid more 13 year old girls blowing out my eardrums. Those girls could shatter glass! It's the only way I would ever watch this band anyhow. REALLY not my cup of tea.

After finding the boss man and woman downing a few in the VIP area, we headed to Brass Monkey for the after party. Open bar baby! Too bad I wasn't ready to end my night after they were ready to head home. Maybe it's because I didn't get my share of VIP treatment. So I took the $20 given to me to head home and redirected the cab to Times Square. Headed to Circus to get a $3 beer and a hot dog. Upon my arrival, I was stopped at the door by 2 West Africans looking for love. I told them the truth: I was waiting until my boyfriend got off of work. Maybe it's the fact that I was ready Beast of No Nation, but I really didn't mind entertaining these guys while I killed time. Maybe it was that I really had no where to run in that bar, so I had no choice to be nice. After chatting with a trumpet player with hip hop dreams, my chopper had arrived. The look on those three guys was hilarious! They couldn't believe a girl used that line and was actually telling the truth! I am guilty of using that line a few times and it is sad to hear shit like: "Your man lets you out of the house?" and "well, why are you here if you have a boyfriend", followed by the unwavering pursuit to get into your pants.

06.09 Loving Day.
40th anniversary of the legalization of interracial marriage. Only 40 years ago! amazing! and in 2000 Alabama finally got rid of the last law that banned interracial marriage. What's sad is that it BARELY passed the popular vote. Another reason I'm not venturing anywhere between here, Miami and California. I'd be shot on site! Biggest complaint: WAY too many people there only for the free beer, food and ice cream. Here's some more photos from the event.

Also, we were walking down the street killing time before the event, and lo and behold:

Then after heading to the park, we saw this lady climbing into the trees and eating these berry things. We find out later that they were Mulberries after we caught someone else eating it.

Dinner was at SB3. Awesome big juicy burger with fancy cocktails made by a mixologist. Of course it's way too posh for my friday nights.

Went to ths Guinness Tastng event wit Chops. Best. Tasting. EVER. After waiting forever on a long line, we got our ticket for a bottle. Cashed in then we were hauled into the big room with round tables. Met three guys, two with "official" looking cameras, followed by two other girls. Four Russian girls who were obviously not into it, left our crazy table within the first five minutes. Not even halfway through my beer, we recieved pints. Chops got picked for the how to pour a black and tan demo, as the gave each table four cans of Guinness and 4 bottles of Harp. After finishing those and the

Thanks to Snarky, I finally got to see !!! live. first show since Cold War Kids. I have to make a promise to myself to see more shows, especially during the summer when everyone comes around.

Best part of my night especially after having received threats from some dickhead on a bike that I didn't want to fuck. Apparently he didn't understand that. Neither did the three fuckheads walking by watching this go down, since they joined in calling me a bitch, because apparently I was wrong for not dropping my pants and hoping on this guy's microscopic prick. I had to walk around the block from my house! In the three years that I've been in that area, I have NEVER had to walk away from my house because I felt so scared. I didn't think the day would come where I would have to kill a man, but if he even got as close as grabbing my arm, there would be my knife in his neck. Thank you high school anatomy for teaching me where exactly on the jugular I would be most successful in taking this excuse for a human being off this planet.

Ben Sherman had a birthday party for their first year in Soho. Bass Ale was flowing along with some nasty Jekyll and Hyde drink. The "berry" made me gag. Tasted just like 'tussin. I guess that's why they gave out mini powdered donuts to chase it with. I could only imagine what the "herbal" tasted like.

Goodie bags included a pint glass from Bass, Bass key chains, mini-Filter, a Pipettes CD, Wolfmother buttons, and other things that probably will collect dust in my room.

Someone was desperate enough for such golden goodies, that they took snarky's bag. WTF? Isn't this Soho? aren't you supposed to be beneath such things? Her hoodie is still missing. I blame the frizzy haired fat lady that threw me to the ground to get food at the Rever party a few weeks ago. She was picking up every free thing that wasn't nailed down.

Mother's Day

For mother's day, my sister chose to prove that the $50,000 my mother has to pay in tuition (loans...lots of them) for her to go to school, really isn't going to waste. She put her CIA training to work. The menu: Hickory smoked & grilled steak, whipped potatoes and sauteed spinach and corn. I "made" the sauce and helped prepped and manned the grill. I can still smell the charcoal...mmm....summer....

Best deal EVER for a wino. $75 unlimited wine dinner at Maloney & Porcelli in midtown. The 'rents and I enjoyed ourselves silly on brut, cabernet sauvignon, sauvignon blanc and merlot. SOOOOO GOOD! and the food was even better. you had the pick of the entire menu. apps, entree and desert. delish! we def. took advantage and had a great time.

Thursday was a night. I haven't had a night like that in a WHILE!

First stop: dinner in Little Italy. yum!

Second stop: Soleteck had a party for some collabo of Emerica and Harley Davidson. I know. doesn't make sense to me either. Party was held at the Emerica showroom in the basement. Dewars, Bud, and Soho wine. Everyone was there. From popped collars to 14 year old boys, it was def. interesting.

Third Stop: Chung King Studios. Where legendary albums were/are made. Talk about the insane amounts of gold and platinum records on the wall. R&B and Hip Hop greats have recorded in those walls and we were in the Red Room just soaking it all in. take a look.

Fourth Stop: Supreme Trading. The Bros played a few rounds of pool while I shot the shit with DJ Swingset. Then it was off to bed at 4am.

Went to Sleek MedSpa for my first chemical peel. I won this gift certificate for $100 bucks. They're one of those spas that have "fancy treatments" like laser hair removal. So $75 later (after the gift certificate) and ignoring the up sell (I won't see a difference until I spend $1100 for a 10 treatment package), I got to try it out. what a load of crap. 2 minutes. that's how long I laid there for the ENTIRE thing. That included application of the chemical and washing it off. I spent more time in the waiting room filling out forms!

After hitting the Billion Dollar Babes Sample Sale (no, I didn't buy anything), we got free admission to the Coffee and Tea Festival right next door. Sounds WAY more exciting than it was. It looked like a real pitiful trade show. Granted it is their second year, but I felt so bad even taking advantage of free samples. I guess I would have felt even more gypped if I paid the $20 admission. We did walk away with a free bag of beans brewed specifically for the event.

Party in the meatpacking district. This place that, according to the PR, took two years to name. Rever. really. that took TWO YEARS. It should have taken them the whole two years to plan this party. There were plenty of bartenders but the snackage sucked as there were WAY too many people in attendance. It is possible to close the guest list. people do it all the time. Instead, you find hundreds of people tackling the poor servers for coconut shrimp, bruschetta, tuna tartare, and basil, mozzarella and tomato skewers.

Flushing Meadows Park was a great choice for a picnic on the second best day of spring. Brought some sandwiches and my laptop to get some work done. It doesn't feel so bad when you are doing it outside in a t-shirt at the park. doesn't feel so much like work.

The history of how poor people have been driven into the farthest areas of queens and the bronx, due to such construction (which incidentally woke me up many a morning when I lived over on Union). Good luck rich people. I just hope you cherish the view until they build 30-story high towers on the water front.

Freakin' rain. I'm so over it. I NEED sun and warmth and to get out! Pops and went to the Mets game. Played against the Washington Nationals and got their asses kicked. hard. We had pretty damn good seats, so I took some photos. They look all warm and sunny, but it was chilly-willy for sure. It was the calm before the storm. BONUS! Saw an almost fight go down. I'm sure you heard about Orlando Hernandez and his beanball. ok so there was no fists, but it was still added excitment to the Mets lackluster performance.

Yea, I haven't posted anything in a while. I blame it completely on this freakin' cold I'm battling. Started feeling the symptoms Sunday morning, then stood in a cold-ass warehouse for hours. So of course I got worse. Now I'm finally getting better.

not much to post lately. I've been so ultra bored and I've been staring too much at the walls of my room. I don't think there's much interest in seeing all that.

I didn't waste my weekend this weekend though. headed out to hunter with my sis. her first time.

I managed to hurt my already twisted knee (from pushing a huge container of beer on the floor pre-after party) and bite through layers inside my lip, when I bailed out after flying down the mountain towards an oncoming school of skiers. knee connected with mouth which connected with teeth, and voila! I'm bleeding inside my mouth and through tiny cuts on my chin. yum. only two more weeks of riding left.

After slacking for the past week and not posting (thursday at Rocco's, Sunday seeing the perfect condo (yes I said CONDO) to aquire, but realizing there was no way it would be mine, nursed my sorrows in mango coconut curry at Noodle Station), I figured I couldn't go without posting tonight's delish dish.

Japanese Restaurant Week started on Sunday. Being the poor foodie I am, I had to take advantage. Chanto had the best deal. Their $80 tasting menu was $55 for the week and it was amazing!

7 Course Tasting Menu:
COLD APPETIZER:
Fatty Tuna Carpaccio served with spicy soy sauce and scallion salad

HOT APPETIZER:
Tebagyo chicken wing filled with pork gyoza dumpling stuffing marinated with teriyaki sauce

As usual, the Alternatives After Party was a success for putting me in an alternative state of consciousness. Not so hot on my liver or my brain, but still was fun. Scandal as usual occurred, and even better, I lost my driver's license. Such bull. I might have dropped it trying to put it in my pocket after swiping my metrocard. boo. That's the way things go when you're all drunky.

Even crazier was that we ran into a couple we met in Costa Rica while on horseback! Who knew she worked with one of our clients. See, it pays to be nice on vacation.

A mix of codfish, cabbage, carrots, and other veggies over rice. no fancy sauces or additives. just food that's good for you. of course in order to increase the health benefits, a few bottles of red were consumed.

Mom and I headed here for Restaurant Week. o. my. god. With the wine pairing, my dinner went as follows: App: Butternut Squash with yogurt and chorizo. The pairing was aquavit and an imported beer. Entree: The dish they are known for: Swedish Meatballs with super creamy mashed potatoes and lingonberries. The pairing was a delicious French Merlot. Dessert: Another of their famous dishes: Arctic Circle: goat cheese parfait with blueberry sorbet and passion fruit curd. paired with a Muscato d'Asti.

This was one of the best food experiences for Restaurant Week. They sure as hell didn't skimp on any detail. They didn't minimize the portions and they didn't cut back on the quality. Good job guys! I'm in foodie paradise!

Took my new setup courtesy of Burton Snowboards out on the hill Sunday. My last run of the day when some dickhead cuts me off. Guess he forgot that his little barely-five-year-old son was following right behind him. that little fucker stops dead right in front of me. Of course I had no where to go but right through his right ski. The kid flew one way, his skis the other, and I tumbled. I hope that kid is so freakin' traumatized that he never gets back on the slopes again. Look what he did to my beautiful board on its first day. Grrrr....

Anytown, USA. An exhibit about gentrification in a gallery space in the middle of Bushwick. Interesting concept. Very dissapointing follow-through. Sipped on some licorice-flavored alcohol called Pernod, while watching four videos that didn't connect. Upon entering I saw two projectors in plastic bags duck taped to project downwards onto bricks of cornbread. One projector featured the "artist" making cornbread, while the other featured skilled workers making it in an almost factory setting. The most intruiging feature was a mini-shrine for Guadalupe that was in a background shot for about 5 seconds.

There were two TV sets side by side. I'm sure the point was to show the progression from the LES to Bushwick on the JMZ line. I watched the loop of train tracks and buildings trying to really grasp the full message. Was it that superfical? "Hey lookie!"

Another TV set shows the above poster wheatpasted in various spots in the neighborhood. Such a missed oportunity. It was supposed to be a forum for the public to remark on gentrification, but out of many posters in the video, less than half had some sort of commentary; either through words, or more intriguing, through the destruction of the poster. I would have opted to keep the posters on the wall of the space (which featured some very interesting persepectives from the attendees of the opening) and do away with the sad video.

The final piece took a lot of time for me to digest what the signficance was. A close up of the "artist's" hands as she was receiving a manicure. Was the nasueating process of watching her pick colors for her "localized" nail decoration the point? Was it to show how cheap the gentrifiers are with her $1 tip? Or was it to show how the gentrifiers are trying to support the local business because they think it's "so my neighborhood."

I'm not sure if some girl from the midwest who can afford to be an "artist", can really comment on the subject of gentrification in the light she wants to. There comes a point where the artist can no longer be neutral and as far as this exhibit is concerned, I think it's pretty clear what side she's on.
